Order No.629 was for one 5'-5.75"
gauge 2-2-2 tender locomotive named "D.Luiz" works
progressive No. 328 supplied in 1862 for express passenger use
and exhibited at the 1862 Paris Exposition. The engine is preserved
at the Portuguese Railway Museum.
The driving wheels were 7'-0"
in diameter and the internal cylinders 16" dia x 22"
stroke. The design was similar to the locomotives supplied to
the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway in 1856 to order No. 66
Earlier Beyer Peacock had
completed two orders. The first: order No.591 WP No. 244 was
for one 0-6-0 goods engine named "Ourique". The second:
order No. 627 WP No. 322 - 327 was for six 0-4-2 passenger engines
the last "demolished" in 1948. |
